Rocking The Boat

Here is an article about Catholic Women Priests from Sojourners Magazine.
It was late afternoon at the end of July 2006. The sunlight slanted in and ricocheted unpredictably off the water of Pittsburgh’s three rivers—the Ohio, Monongahela, and Allegheny. Boarding the riverboat Majestic, 400 people attended the first ordination in the United States of Roman Catholic women to the priesthood and diaconate. In doing so, the Catholics present aided in breaking canon law 1024, which states, “Only a baptized man validly receives sacred ordination.” This act of ecclesial disobedience was punishable by excommunication. I had a happy shiver down my spine reading this article! It is unbelievably cool that this is happening - from the roots, from within these people, within the catholic church, comes this motion!! It is not even a protest, it just is a sea of flowers blooming and nobody can stop it! I want to pray for hearts to open, because this is a truth from the heart, perhaps only understood with the heart. It is not a battle, where the opponents throw different parts of the scriptures on each other. It is a true, loving movement and it’s happening!

Wow, Anneli! I love how you worded that — “It is not a battle, where opponents throw different parts of the scriptures on each other.” So many, many times, that’s how discussions like this have made me feel…like I’m being physically pounded with the Bible. A sea of flowers blooming is such a lovely, peaceful image as a way of making positive changes.
Peace to you,
Bridgitt

Dear Bridgitt, let’s be flowers that just bloom, no matter what! Even if someone says: Oh, I usually like roses better… It doesn’t matter: the strong little pansies bloom beautifully anyways! (I think I’m a pansie, what are you?)
And Peace to you, Bridgitt!
